We’ve recently increased the range of bamboo products that we sell. Bamboo is well known as an environmentally friendly product and we’re proud to offer toilet roll, facial tissues and kitchen roll.

Bamboo grows incredibly quickly (20 times quicker than trees). Not only that but it produces 35% more oxygen and absorbs 35% more carbon. It thrives in a wide range of environments, with the hardiest plants reaching their full height in less than a year. Because of its renewable nature, it is being used more than ever in the hunt for sustainable materials and makes an ideal replacement for virgin wood timber and other finite resources. This versatile material is incredibly robust and has many applications.

One of the main reasons why bamboo is seen as environmentally friendly is that it grows easily. Also, farmers don’t need to invest too much time and effort into growing it as once planted it needs little attention. In ideal conditions, the plant can grow to its full height within a single season. Even if the entire stem is harvested, the plant will regenerate to its full size within a year. This contrasts with timber forests, where trees take many years, to reach mature size.

In the UK, we use around 8.5 billion rolls of toilet paper every year. The pulp used to make these toilet rolls usually come from pure virgin softwood. Virgin softwood is also used to make kitchen rolls and tissues making this an enormous industry with poor environmental credentials.
